The application process for INTRO is the same as YAS and the prices are shown on the YAS Cost page.
Intro YAS offers 3 weeks of inspiration in the cool, Colorado Rockies. Our internationally acclaimed faculty comes from top schools. You'll get individual coaching including master classes. There will be group practice and chamber ensemble sessions.
But, hey, it's summer. At Rocky Ridge there is also plenty of free time and many recreational opportunities. Our location next to Rocky Mountain National Park offers fantastic hiking, including a chance to climb some serious "Colorado" style peaks. There are also trips into town (Estes Park), fireside programs, games and sports at camp.
Take a break on Mondays and plan on taking a spectacular hike in scenic Rocky Mountain National Park, which is just out our back door! The snow-capped Rockies provide many outstanding opportunities for hiking through the woods to gorgeous mountain lakes, and venturing into the Alpine Tundra where delicate flowers thrive in a hostile environment. We share our home with deer, elk, and other wildlife which often graze in the surrounding areas of Rocky Ridge. Don't want to hike? Okay, the nearby town of Estes Park offers many things to do including swimming, tennis, horseback riding, shopping, and movies.
Your summer home will be historic log and clapboard cabins nestled in the woods of this National Historic District. You'll share a cabin with four to six other students. For high schoolers, one of your roommates will be a counselor, many of whom are music majors from around the country. These college-age students are fellow Rocky Ridgers who will relate to your unique experiences and concerns during the summer.
In keeping with the community spirit established by the environmentalists who homesteaded this historic property, you will also participate in a daily work crew, an essential part of the operation of Rocky Ridge and a great way to make friends.
A typical day starts with breakfast followed by "name that tune," announcements, and the sight reading of a Bach Chorale. Practice, lessons, and chamber music follow. Lunch consists of homemade soups, breads, sandwiches, and desserts. You are then ready for a full afternoon of chamber music, ensemble rehearsals and theory. Free time is also interspersed throughout the day depending on your individual schedule. Master Classes for all instruments are scheduled throughout the week in addition to off-campus chamber ensemble performances. Evening activities include performance classes, rehearsals, fireside programs, and recreation.
Performance Experience
Music begins with twice weekly playing classes. Weekly private lessons and Master classes offer students the opportunity to work on new repertoire. Students who audition for the Solo Competition may be selected to perform in an honors recital. The Festival of Music culminates your musical education with a series of public student concerts at the Center featuring both solo and chamber ensemble performances.
The art of Chamber Music is emphasized by the formation of student chamber ensembles following placement auditions held during the first week of the session. This will be a focal point in your study at Rocky Ridge. You will have the unique opportunity to participate in a structured chamber music program with regularly scheduled rehearsals and faculty coachings. You will be further exposed to the chamber music repertoire by attending our 'Music in the Mountains' concerts, performed weekly by our artist faculty.
Theory instruction is also offered to enhance your musical comprehension. Our approach is to integrate music history, theory, and aural skills, in order to broaden your musical awareness and enhance your daily practice.
