

Nancy Archer is a very wealthy woman who sports the famous Star of India Diamond around her neck. But money doesn't make life easy, Nancy is trying to get her life back together. Everyone in her small town knows she's a recovering alcoholic who's spent time in a lunatic asylum, so when she comes back from a country drive crying hysterically that she saw a satellite and a thirty-foot giant tried to take her necklace, it is no surprise she isn't taken seriously. Well, not in the way she intended.
But she is set to prove she isn't crazy, there really is something--someone--out in that desert.
In the meantime, Nancy knows her husband Harry only married her for her money, and she also knows he's been spending his time with another woman. But even though the two of them have struggled with divorce and she is aware his intentions were not true, part of her is very much in love with him.

A mysterious giant whose spaceship ("satallite") thrives off the energy of rare, expensive diamonds. When he encounters Nancy in the desert he goes after her because of the Star of India Diamond she wears around her neck.

Harry Archer married Nancy for her money and it was one of his little romances on the side that originally landed the couple a divorce. But, convinced he was still worth something, Nancy takes him back as her husband, and they continue to have the same problem. But this time his current girl, Honey, is ready to move on and starts to pressure him into having Nancy committed so he can get ahold of her money and they can have their own life together. Harry's relationship with Nancy does not appear very deep at all. He humors her and drivers her around in search of proof of the giant, but it is clear that she is expendable to him. At one point Harry contemplates giving Nancy an overdose of medicine after Honey overhears Dr. Cushing telling the Nurse that too much serum is fatal.

Honey is Harry's woman on the side, and the entire town knows it. She is tired of having to stay in a hotel and wants to move forward in her relationship with Harry. She encourages him to take advantage of Nancy's latest hysterics to get her out of the picture for good.

Tony is a minor role, played by the same actor as the Space Giant. He is the owner and proprietor of the local bar where Harry is often seen with Honey. In her giant state, Nancy destroys the bar when she's searching for Harry.

When Nancy dissappears after her drive with Harry to prove the satellite's existance, Sheriff Dubbitt goes looking for her and find her on top of her own pool house. Until things start making more sense, he warns both Harry and Honey not to leave town for a while.
Later, he goes into the desert with Jess to investigate the satellite.

Jess is Nancy's butler, he has been serving her family for years. He cared for her growing up, and worries over her current condition and health.
Jess accompanies Sheriff Dubbitt to investigate the satellite.

Dr. Cushing is a psychiatrist helping Nancy to stay off the bottle and aiding her after her initial satellite hysterics. When Harry asks him if he thinks Nancy might be having a relapse, Cushing tells him the worst thing in the world for her would be going back to the asylum. Instead, she needs to stay in the house with Harry, as according to Cushing, Nancy gets a great deal of consolation from being around Harry.

After Nancy is brought home with mysterious scratches on her neck and grows many times her size, Dr. Cushing brings in Dr. Loeb to get his opinion on the situation. Loeb and Cushing agree that her growth is probably related to the scratches on her neck which emit a strange radiation. However, while Cushing isn't sure what to make of the current situation, Loeb thinks that, with surgery, there is hope for Nancy.

A minor role, the nurse tends to Nancy and is one of the first people to see Nancy after she grows--asleep--into her giant state. Her screams alarm everyone else in the home to the situation.
